I hate to use a word like 'awesome' when referring to a mud turtle but this female really is something. She is the fifth Kinosternon baurii like this that I have found in a limited area of the Everglades in the past six or seven years. The many others that that I have found have had somewhat speckled heads and light shells but nothing like this. I don't know if they are just very unusual animals, or are hypomelanistic, or what. But they sure are nice.
