Hey all,

I have been out collecting a few times this week and last. I managed to find a good place to catch the San Joaquin Fence Lizard - Sceloporus occidentalis biseriatus. They are a unique subspecies, from what I have observed they tend to be smaller than all there cousins. The males are almost solid black on top with a well defined white stripe in the center of the belly. Adult males average 4", where females are around 3" - 3.5". Size is total overall size from tip of snout to tip of tail. As soon as I get batteries for my camera I will atempt to get some good field shot of this rarely observed subspecies. My oservation of this subspecies was at only one location, on the banks of the Delta waters in Stockton California. Less than ten miles away at anouther location of the same waterway there was no San Joaquin Fence Lizard's observed. Hope you all enjoyed thes field notes.
