I recently discovered this guy, actually I think girl crossing countyroad 235 in southern Alachua County, Florida.

I think I have it narrowed down to some sort of Map turtle, however every book I read says that their range doesn't come down that far south and even if it did this turtle is nearly jet black on top with a dirty yellow belly. The head and legs are all nearly jet black. The straight shell length is 8 inches by 6 1/2 inches wide!

Please Help me identify this turtle

Could it be a new subspecies or color variant at the very least?

thanks
Dave
