hello over feeding can be a negative with tegus they eat alot already they basically become fat lap dogs let them grow at a natural rate is safest on their reproductive organs hibernation can effect the reds if not done the first two years i have one that is huge but he is genetically bigger then the others i own he is fed the same amount as the others i like to let them get hungry in between feedings it stimulates them to be active and this gets their systems working i love watching them come running out to eat in the morning they are scavengers and are constantly looking for food my vet has stated that high quality dog food for senior dogs is his recommendation if you are to use dog food i use tropical fruit mixed with my food for the b&w argentines and my reds humidity is key the fruit helps keep them hydrated along with daily mistings and a soak water dish i keep mine ouside and have misters and allow them to borrow no shed problems ever outside hope this helps jeff owner planet reptiles 10 female reds 6 male reds 3 male black and whites 6 female black and whites babies of both and on and on with other herps
