My two cents is to provide animals with a range of habitat whether we think it is what they would use or not. I had a blood python that would regurlary hit the top of an eight foot cage in the evenings, I never would have guessed that. This cage is seven feet tall and about five feet wide, with a heated sub-t area and a protected upper area that houses an infrared panel heater, fluorescent lights and an incandescent light. I dig this species because they are so adaptable to So-cal whether, I let the ambient temp drop at night to the low sixties and the day time high gets to whatever. The cage itself has enough air space that overheating isn't a threat and underheating isn't possible with the species. Other than that, I watch to see what she does and tinker with that. This species is pretty active and a kick to keep.
