Ground snakes are cool. I know of a few folks who have kept them for a short period before returning them to their capture sight. I imagine they could be kept successfully for at least a few years.

The shredded coconut product works well, like Bed-a-Beast. A friend kept his on newspaper. The snakes will eat crickets, spiders and maybe centipedes. Active at night more than day. Make sure fresh water is available at all times, and I think a screen top or partial screen top is best.

I don't know if they require a humid hide.

I kept a shovelnose snake for a few years pretty much as described above. It did great using overhead heat and pretty much kept dry except for occasional soaks. Small snake, small cage. Never saw it out during the day.
