If they realize a live animal is in a box they are handling they may treat it with more care rather than just some random box they can throw around.

As long as it's not potentially harmful, dangerous, or venomous,my feeling is that it's none of their bloody business what's in the box. They just need to deliver it, and mind their own beezwax. As I understand it, the spirit of the law is simply to let the shipper know when they are carrying something potentially dangerous. So as long as you aren't shipping hots,...who cares.
