Your tort will have nails like those of a bird. Can you see a clear-ish tip, and a darker "quick?" Just snip the clear part. If you're afraid of cutting too much, you can always file them with a nail file. If you're really afraid of cutting too much, buy a bottle of Quick (Kwik?) Stop powder, in the bird or dog section. It stops bleeding very fast. Just do a little bit at a time.
