Greeks/Hermanns in New England?

Would these tortoises do well in a New England climate? I've heard these are arid/semi-arid species, and we have days in the summer up here (Massachusetts) that can be very humid. The weather varies--sometimes drier and cooler, sometimes hot and humid. Can anyone who keep these species in New England give me their input?
