Is this illegal?

Hello, this fool on youtube put a rattlesnake into the bath tub with a kingsnake and filmed it being killed. He claimed it was mojave rattlesnake I'm not sure as I am no means a snake expert. However, I found the video disturbing it kind of reminded of the morons who participate in dog fighting. If it is a mojave aren't they a protected species? Are there laws against doing this kind of thing? The link to the video is below...
