Posted by: Desert01 at Wed Aug 1 09:29:10 2007 [ Report Abuse ] [ Email Message ] [ Show All Posts by Desert01 ] The longer I have my HL (Platyrhinos) the more questions arise. I've been reading the information in this forum and all over the Phrynosoma.Org website. I still am not clear on the hibernation part. Do they need to hibernate? What is the criteria for that? Is it possible to not have them hibernate? How much light a day should they get? I have a 100 watt Mercury Vapor bulb. It is about 12 inches from the sand. One side of the tank stays at 90 and the other at 75. She spends most of her time in the warm side. I leave the light on about 12 hours. Sometimes she is up when I turn it off and sometimes she goes to bed early and then I turn off the light. I've been reading about soaking HL in water. Should I do that? I never see her drink. I have misted the screen on top of the aquarium over her favorite basking rock to simulate rain. She gets wet but doesn't really drink. Is this enough moisture if done a couple of times a week? I do want to make sure she is properly hydrated. I have thought about moving her water dish closer to the warm side of the enclosure. I have had to with hold crickets. She was snubbing the ants. The crickets and ants go straight for the water dish in her enclosure. Will the crickets and ants supply enough hydration for her if she eats them, or does she still need to be hydrated with soaking or misting? I've read so many different views on care for HL's that I am a lttle confused. I could sure use some help on these areas. Thanks.
