Wow what a wealth of husbandry info you have posted. I just "rescued" a 40 inch western coachwhip from a neighbors garage west of San Antonio, Texas. I expected it to be aggresive and bite me but that was not the case. I was going to release it but am now charmed by it's demeanor and personality. It seems intelligent. Are they usually this docile once in captivity? I've seen many in the wild, 2 in my yard (one with a rabbit halfway down it's throat) and left them alone because I assumed they had nasty dispositions due mainly to common reputation. This one is very gentle and "seems" to know I mean it no harm. Is this unique to your experience?
