They lay their eggs on land. After the eggs hatch, the larvae move into the water where they stay for 7-9 months. Eventually they make the transformation from water dwelling to land dwelling salamanders.

You'd need a seperate enclosure to raise the larvae in and very small food to feed them. I've found longtails along creeks. As far as I know there hasn't been very many (or any) private breeders who have successfully reproduced this salamander.
