It looks to me like an American

On the back there are black spots that have brown bumps on them. American toads tend to have 1-2 larger bumps per black spot while Fowler's tend to have 3-5. What color is the belly? American Toads usuall have a bunch of black/gray spots on their belly while Fowler's Toads have a clean belly and perhaps a single spot in the middle. Carefull -- they hybridize

Habitat can also be used but only as a rule of thumb. A toad found on a sandy beach or sandy something else is OFTEN a Fowler's Toad. Toads found in forests could be either.
