Hey all, I have a few questions for ya. I have a female pair of g. marginata (they were sold to me as g. vorax, but we're all pretty convinced they're not). I purchased them as a pair from a breeder in Tampa this past March. They are well set up, well fed, well cared for, I won't get into the specifics because it's moot. My one, Jaya, has always been a little larger than the other, Malay, since I got them. Recently though, it seems that Jaya is a beast compared to Malay. Malay doesn't eat as much (it seems), she's become noticably thinner, and she seems submissive (but of course, she was always the easier of the 2 to handle). So with all of that said, I have a few questions, I want to get some opinions:
Have you ever noticed in a female pair that one becomes the more dominant female of the pair? It seems that's what's happening here, but I may just be imagining things. When I went away for 2 weeks I separated them and took Malay with me while my boyfriend cared for the rest of the zoo and she seemed fine on her own, though she didn't eat too much.
How has everybody's experiences been with bringing these difficult to handle, highly delicate geckos to the vet? I would like to bring Malay in to have her checked out, but I'm concerned that because she's fragile it may cause more harm than good. If it WILL cause more harm than good, does anybody have any recommendations to get her back up to 100%? I think it's weird for her to have parasites but not the other. Has anybody used JumpStart with their geckos with any amount of luck or success?
Now, all of that said, I just heard a thump, so I turned around and looked in the cage, and there's Malay, chowing down on some papaya. It's like she saw me type 'vet' and thought "OKAY OKAY, I'll eat!!!" So if she IS getting food, why would she be to thin? Hmmm...
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thanks so much everybody!
