I would shoot for at least 12 sq ft. Bigger is better. If you have a mix of males and females here you'll want to give the females as much room to hide from the males as possible. Once a male is interested a female can become very stressed by the constant attempts at mating.

However large you make it, try to make it interesting with rocks and logs, etc. They like places to climb over and hide under.
