Sometime overnight last night 6 tortoises were stolen from the Wildlife Trails park in Birch Run, Michigan. They were the only animals taken although several of the doors on the now empty reptile enclosures had been opened and left open so we assume they were looking to take some other animals also. The tortoises had already been moved to their indoor winter enclosure since the nights here in Michigan are getting quite cool. There were 4 Sulcata tortoises taken, all female, the largest being approximately 65 pounds, the smallest 12 pounds. Also stolen were 2 Leopard tortoises, one 10 inches straight line, the other 20 inches. The Leopard tortoises belonged to us, Mid Michigan Reptile Rescue, and were on loan to the park.
If anyone hears of any tortoises that may fit the description of these stolen torts being offered for sale in Michigan please contact me via this forum or through the Mid Michigan Reptile Rescue website. Thank you! Mid Michigan Reptile Rescue
