Animals that are listed in CITES can still be purchased. There are just stricter regulations on importing them into the country/ if somebody already has them and are breeding and selling them captive bred, they don't need CITES permits to sell them in country. Just to export them to other countries. Same with importing into the US or Canada.
Importers should have the required permits to sell CITES listed animals. If you have any concerns about a particular animal being listed or not listed, you can always contact CITES directly.
It took me awhile to find the full list of reptiles on one or the other CITES appendix, which is why I included the link so you can see the list I found on the website. The search engine didnt' find anything...couldn't even find animals with that search feature I knew were on the CITES list. I don't think it works very well or I just dont' understand it ----- PHLdyPayne
