Plant the Calathea after washing the leaves, but without disturbing the soil around the roots too much, but the rest of them can be washed, abused, and will take hold, even if you just throw them in side-wise. Even the Calathea would do this if you had the nerve to cut off half the roots and all of the leaves except the very center sprouts before stuffing it into place. But that's too much to ask of anyone who is not a veteran of many plant wars. I'm talking only of the tropical environment of a vivarium here. Outside of this, on a shelf or window sill, one could not be so careless with any of these plants. ----- Patty Pahsimeroi, Idaho
