That would work. Is everything already in with the fir and peat? If so, I would guess that it's perhaps the fir that is the problem with your plants, but I'm not sure. You could top dress with the combination you propose, but put the leaf litter on top instead of mixing it into the soil without breaking it up. ----- Patty Pahsimeroi, Idaho
