I'd kill for a beautiful piece of oak bark like that.

I never attempt to bake or sanitize wood--just wash off the crud. Baking merely kills off the good stuff, like the lovely lichens (which may or may not survive in a vivarium) and there are no particularly harmful bugs to worry about. Either the frogs or other herps will eat them, or they find themselves out of place and don't thrive. Any bacteria or fungi spores that are there are neither plant pathogens or specific animal parasites we need to worry about.
