My mother in law brought me a very fat yellow spotted salamander today. It was found on the side of the road in a snow bank, being its the middle of winter here and still around -10 outside....she thought is was or is a lost pet

She brought it to me because many years ago I owned an Iguana as a pet who lived a healthy life of 6' long and 15 yrs with me. Needless to say I have no idea what to do with this salamander. I have given it crickets but so far it has not ate anything. Its in a glass container with water and rocks but from what I have read here its much to small and not close to what is required.

Can I release it to the wild again and if so will it find a new place to continue its hibernation or will it die.
