I'm hoping to get a colony of turtles going in my pond (very large- larger than a city lot), it's about 15' deep and has a mud bottom which I know softies would love for hiding and hibernation.

Are there species that would be ideal in cold climates- cold meaning the pond is frozen from October to April? I see eastern spiny's range goes into Canada, but also dips quite far south- I don't know if a genetic southern eastern spiny would be the same as a northern turtle.

And... does anyone know of a good Canadian source for these? I'm in BC but would ship within country if necessary- shipping from the US seems to be too expensive and risky.

Thanks for any tips, ideas etc.
