POST & COURIER (Charleston, S Carolina) 04 January 08 150-pound anaconda moved from South Carolina Aquarium
Molly, a 15-foot, 150-pound giant green anaconda, made a stink Thursday when she was toted from her home at the South Carolina Aquarium.
Aquarium herpetologist Clint Ball said releasing her bowels was a defensive move typical of anacondas during times of stress.
Molly is part of a menagerie of animals being moved as the aquarium breaks down its “Secrets of the Amazon” exhibit. An exhibit on camping in South Carolina will take its place in March.
“Camp Carolina!” will feature barn owls, skunks, fish, snakes and a bald eagle.
Eight-year-old Molly is headed back to locally owned Alan Bosch Reptiles, which had loaned her to the aquarium. Most of the other animals, including piranhas, a lesser anteater, four-eye fish, an electric eel and poison dart frogs, are going to a zoo, aquarium or other display site.
