They do not constantly leak poison. They release it when bothered, such as when the keeper handles them or when tankmates try and eat them. So that is not a problem.

Not all fish are from warm tropical waters, so that is not an issue either. There are a number of fish that will thrive in the same room temp range the newts will prefer. These include many danios including white clouds, guppies, platies, and others.

Obviously the tank needs to be big enough and setup in the right way to properly house them together, but it can be done.
