Hey Guys,
Since I am from Turkey, I have been researching about venomous snakes from Turkey for a while now. There is one sp. called Vipera pontica a.k.a Çoruh(Choruh)Viper in Turkey as they only live by the Çoruh river. It is a critically endangered species and they think there is only around 50 or so individuals left. The main reason is probably the Turkish ignorance (I am ashamed) and outright cruelty (even more ashamed) against all types of snakes.
My question is: Does any private collector known in Europe or US has any of these snakes in captivity? I really doubt it as Turkey does not allow but if yes, I would like to contact with the hobbyist(s). I would love to be involved in a breeding program to save these little beasts as they are going downhill pretty fast.
I am planning to go to Çoruh this summer to educate the villagers and try to find some of these buggers. Of course catching is not an option as it is punishable by law. (So is killing them but nobody does anything.)
Well anyways.... I don't even have a decent picture to look at so please share anything you know or have.
Thanks, Yasin ----- We are the best GALATASARAY
