I think they are considered a type of hypo and are not very common as you mentioned. S.D. has hypo's but they look different. The original blue eyed blond hypo morph was collected in S.D. Co. There's also an extremely light phase from S.D. Co. that looks hypo, but many consider the light color a part of the variation out there. You can find Cal kings with all sorts of shades of brown.
