BRACKNELL FOREST STANDARD (Wokingham, UK) 03 April 08 Dad-to-be: I just love my lizards (Lorna Catling)
A reptile rescuer has vowed not to abandon his animals despite pleas from his pregnant girlfriend to move to Peterborough.
Graham Martin, of Easthampstead, cannot bear to leave his scaly pets, which were accumulated under his organisation Berkshire Reptile Rescue, to be nearer to his girlfriend, who he met online.
Graham, who has around 12 reptiles living with him, said: “We are expecting a little reptile rescuer now but even now I can’t move there and leave them behind.
“She is just going to have to move down here. She’s met most of the reptiles I have here at the moment and likes the turtles the best.
“As long as they all stay in their tanks, she’s fine. She’s not too keen on the snake though.”
Graham, 31, is also tied to the area because he lives with his disabled father, who he cares for.
He has run Berkshire Reptile Rescue from his home for the last 12 years.
Animals needing homes include a bearded dragon, snake, turtles and tortoises.
And the latest addition arrived on Monday morning – a tattoo on his back.
“I got a tattoo of a turtle on my back because I am really interested in them,” said Graham.
“It took about 40 minutes and I am thinking of getting one of a raven for my girlfriend because she loves them.
“It did hurt quite a lot, maybe I should have gone for something a bit smaller.”
Berkshire Reptile Rescue centre is a non-profit organisation that relies on support and donations from members of the public, either in kind or cash.
It also provides information and advice to anyone thinking of buying a reptile as their new family pet.
