Unless it can dry out well will eventually rot (hemp is a natural material after all). Chams do get several types of foot pad infections due to bacteria that can be very hard to treat. If you are using the hemp to anchor or attach things you can use plastic coated florist's wire instead. Pretty tough an waterproof.
