If anyone will forgive my laziness in asking, I would appreciate recommendations for both filter and pump capacity. Pond is/will be outdoors, 5 feet by 5 feet by approximately 20 inches deep, (equalling by my calculations /- 300 gallons) and is to be inhabited by a 5" red-eared slider and at times some feeder fish and plants (depending on how quickly he consumes these). For economic reasons I am hoping to be able to construct a home-made cannister-type filter from plastic garbage cans or water barrels, but I need an idea of what kind of filter capacity and pump capacity I will be needing.

I thank you for taking the time to read my question, and will appreciate any feedback you are able to provide.
