If your giving them what they need, they'll retreat to wherever they feel secure and you go about your business. Once your done they'll eventually come back out and resume theirs. I did this for years when I kept Day Geckos. I never had an escapee and these things were 50X faster than an Anole. Some of them would sit and watch what I was doing, though I couldn't get all of them to take crickets out of my hand.
