So I was walking out behind my house near this canal and we have a lot of gophers back there and we are always fighting them. Anyways I walked up to a new gopher hole which had been plugged up, but there was something sticking out of the top of it. I stared for a second and realized I was looking at the biggest tiger salamander I have ever seen. The head was just enormous, and it's the only part I saw. But from one side to the other the head was probably close to two inches across! I dove down to try and grab the sucker but he scurried back into the hole. I shoved my arm down the hole (bad idea, i know) because I wanted to take a picture for documentation but i just touched his clammy stomach with the very tip of my finger. I'm really bummed I didn't catch him, but I was wondering could this be close to the record size for a tiger salamander? I mean it was just huge. I live in Idaho by the way so there's no way I confused it for a different kind.
