They do need a substantial land area, usually 50% to the majority the space is recomended, and a light earthy substrate deep enough for them to burrow, not to be kept like a newt.
Try to vary the diet, they are eating machines and will almost constantly beg for food and will become as grossly obese as you allow, which isn't in the best interest of their health.
