THE TRENTONIAN (Trenton, Ontario) 15 July 08 Seven turtles crushed by car The Ministry of Natural Resources is asking the public to come forward with information regarding the killing of a large number of snapping turtles that were crushed by a vehicle. During the night of June 13, or early morning of June 14, a person driving a motor vehicle drove over a large number of snapping turtles in Stirling-Rawdon, north of Belleville. There were seven turtles killed in one short stretch of Kings Mills Road, west of the Conservation Area, and two killed near the corner at the Conservation Area. The crushed turtles and eggs were spread across the road. Information received indicated that the seven turtles had been run over by one vehicle. The vehicle had backed up a number of times to be able to hit all the turtles, which were located all across the road. The Ministry of Natural Resources Conservation Officers are requesting information about the identity of the person or persons involved. To report a natural resources violation, call 1-877-TIPS-MNR (847-7667) toll-free any time or contact the Peterborough District office at (705) 755-2001 during regular business hours or call Crime Stoppers.
