Depends on how big of a snake you start out with. I have kept juveniles in enclosures with the same deminsions as 10gal fish tanks. Basically, if it will work for a Red-tail Boa it will work for a Dum. Most Dumerils are not as active as Red-tail's, and cage hight is not a factor, since they are ground dwellers. I have an 8ft female that makes her home in 4ft long x 2ft deep x 15in tall Neodesha cage. I also use aspen bedding with my Dum's. I have noticed that with newspaper substrate they tend to just lay around. With the aspen they seem to be more active, trying to burrow in it.
I hope you get a Dumerils Boa, they are wonderful snakes!!
