>>Some other thoughts....

>>

>>I have a Burmese and live in FL, so I already have the $100 ROC permit. However, it really is against the law in FL to purchase a pet from someone who doesn't have a Class III wildlife permit. With the new permitting system, you have to document where your newly purchased animal comes from, along with a reminder about that law. It would be very difficult to accept an iguana from an unpermitted entity at this point. I see it now with people trying to rehome their Burms on Craig's List. They don't have permits and many of the knowledgeable snake handlers who already have permits won't go near them for fear of FWC issues.

>>

>>Personally, I don't think the FWC will add the iguana to the ROC list simply because while they are pests, they aren't a threat in the same way the larger carnivorous herps are. Their numbers have increased in S. FL. I went an my annual pilgrimage to the Keys and found several colonies, one huge colony in Key West, plus more of them basking along US 1 in the Lower Keys.

This was something that I talked about with folks last year at Daytona when the ROC was shown to folks. Iguanas have been an issue far longer than the more recent released animals and are doing a huge number on native plants. While their harm is minimal, Adults can still get aggressive. I was curious as to why they were not added. Greens along with the Ctenosaurus Similis are both introduced and thriving. And it isnt just southern FL. My father in Law is hoping that when I am down next month I can relocate the green iguana that has ruined his pool screening 3 times now. Hate to tell him, but I am so not climbing a palm tree to grab a 6 foot male iguana. Not happening. But he is in Clearwater/Tampa Area. The person is right as they are now an established species. Stopping sales in pet stores wont do a hoot of good. And honestly neither will adding them to ROC.
