If you have the environmental issues covered, my next question would be do you have a good hide available for him. That is imperative for young greens. The second issue would be the mice. I have not had much luck at all getting young greens to take mice. A very few will, but most will show no interest.
Rats work much better, however the vast majority of young greens are much more likely to start on birds. About any baby bird will work, but Jud and I have found that about 80% of young greens will readily take chicken chicks as a first meal. Although not very readily available, the absolute best are ducklings. I would say that at least 95% of young greens will take a duckling without hesitation as a first meal.
After they start on chicks, scenting works well and they can be switched over to small rats fairly easily. Do not try to switch them from chicks to mice. Rats are a much better prey item to switch them over onto than mice. Most mice are really too small as a prey item for young greens, and they will outgrow large feeder mice in a few months anyway. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
