The compact, coiled bulbs do not give out adequate UV. Also, the UV dissipates as 1) it passes through a screen lid (most reptile owners have to deal with this) and 2) the distance from the lizard increases. What I like to do is get a long tube UV bulb and put in a kitchen fixture that I buy from Home Depot. Then my husband hangs it over the side of the aquarium, on the inside, so that the lizard inside gets exposure at a distance of 6-12" at its normal basking spot.
