I've seen some caresheets describing how important it is that the water is cool (low 70's) and others that recommend mid to upper 70's. I believe much of this is coming from the thinking that Spotteds are typically cool thriving species most active in Spring. Its often noted that Spotteds are uncommonly seen during summer months (and often aestivate). However, the species ranges from Canada to Florida, so warmer temperatures are obviously not prohibitory. Moreover, water temps fluctuate widely in the wild. Setting aside breeding cycles and genetic adaptations to regional conditions, what water temp is truly ideal?
