Fire Skink

I'm thinking of buying a baby fire skink.. Every care sheet and book I have looked through suggests a 20 gallon (at least) terrarium for 1-3 adult fire skinks. I'm wondering if a 10 gallon would be okay for a juvenile, until he gets bigger and how long does it take before a fire skink reaches adult size?
