I use newspaper for a medium and my older lizards dig empty cereal or cracker boxes for hides if not they'll just destroy the paper and make thier own burrow....
...for hatchlings I use a small tupperware with some damp peat for a humid hide...they shed soooo much as babies it helps keep them comfortable it seems. Paper towel rolls work awesome for dry hides for babies and make it easy to clean them or whatever without getting nailed or man handling the postal lil baby with tongs...just simply grab the roll and move it somewhere safe with the baby monster in it....I've noticed both gilas and beadeds are a lot less aggressive when provided hides especially babies who feel so threatened by us
...certain that exposure makes them feel confrontational, I can relate.lol...good luck
