Don't take my word for it:

Bert was a wonderful man and contributed greatly to the field.

However, it is proper in academia to say that mammals and reptiles both hibernate OR to say that mammals hibernate and reptiles brumate. It is not considered accurate to say that some reptiles hibernate and some brumate. You can disagree with me and be rude, I'm just letting you know. Please don't shoot the messenger, I didn't make the rules up. Taxonomy may be debatable, but this is kind of an already decided issue unless you just decided on your own to call it what you will. It's like the grammar police decided a question mark will be placed at the of an interrogatory sentence, but someone decided it looked more like an exclamation point and wanted to call it that instead. You can call it an exclamation point, but it's still a question.
