At 18mos, I could tell my male was definitely a male. I have to add that I'm guessing his age based on length. He came to me with a rocky start and may have been undersized.

At first his pores started enlarging and it was only the first 5 or so, so I thought it was a female. It also had a sleek head and was smallish.

Now he has some little orange-ish to his legs and back, head bobs at reflections, has become picky, was waxy substances from all of his femoral pores, and you can see his hemipenal bulges. Definitely a male!

Agreeing with the others, I'd go by the femoral pores at around 2yrs than by the head shape. Despite all the other changes, I don't think mine has a very big head.
