from what I can find via research online these salamanders (Ambystoma gracile) breed in early spring..so its already past their normal breeding time. I don't know if you just caught some from the wild or had them in captivity for some time. Knowing the sex and age of your salamanders is a start.

Unfortunately I don't know much about breeding or keeping salamanders in general. Best way to induce breeding in captivity is to replicate their natural habitat as closely as possible and provide a pool of water with vegetation much like they would use in the wild to breed.

forums.kingsnake.com/contactme.php?action=contact&user=W von Papineäu&post=GBR Press: Space experiment has a sting is a link to an email form to one of our Canadian newt/salamander experts. He knows alot about keeping and breeding various kinds of salamanders and newts...not sure if he has worked with the species you are trying to breed, but he probably can point you in the right direction at least.

It may be too late to breed this season but you can certainly be prepared for next breeding season in plenty of time. I just don't know how quick he will be to respond as he is pretty busy lately but normally he's good at replying to emails. If the link below fails to work or you don't get a response in a few weeks, let me know and I will see if I can send an email directly to him, on your behalf.
