Sounds like you're working out the issues. Definitely get a temp gun. I picked up a Raytek minitemp MT4 off of ebay or amazon for somewhere around $40 I think. I like it because it has a laser pointer so you can get a better idea of exactly what its measuring.

Nice snake. I love those mainland critters. I've got an '05 Manokwari-type who's ridiculously vibrant. Great choice.
