I have a trio in a 40 gallon breeder tank with 1/3 water with filtration and a waterfall. Then I just bought some of the live tropical plants they have at Petco. I keep the little feeder minnows in the water. I haven't caught them get a fish, but they have been triing for 3 years and I buy roughly 10 new minnows a months. I positioned there hides in such a way that I can see/check on them without disturbing them. The least I mess with them, the more I see them. Usually in the morning about 7-8 AM and sometimes in the evening about the same time. I have seen my mate, but have yet to see them produce eggs. I'll proubly wake up one morning to a strange 4th lizard.
One time members of my Herpetological Society talked me into bringing my Females to one of our displays. It didn't sound like a good idea, just from my experiences. But I did. I didn't see them for 6 months. I later talked with a Gentleman who said when he moved, He didn't see his act normal for 18 months.
They are awesome animals. They are very interesting, to say the least. But from my experience, they aren't the type of lizard that'll you'll get much cuddles with. Like a Bearded Dragon or a Leopard Gecko or whatnot. I do enjoy watching them do there thing. It is a pain when I have to clean there enclosure. Because it reallly throws them off for a few weeks. But they do have vocals and will tell you when they aren't happy usually. It sounded like a door making noise, with froggy- baby type noises. Now the last 3-4 days before I saw them mate. It was more of a softer noise, Coohing(spelling)I tried to take pictures without a flash, but they are looking pretty dark. I wish you the best of luck with them. Any questions, feel free to ask. I will answer to the best of my ability. I know when I bought mine. They said just to keep them in a 5 gal tank with newspaper on the bottom. I am glad that I didn't listen. I think I would of missed out on alot of cool behaviors. Also, A great man who has breed numerous reptiles over the years told me once. Whenever you get a new Lizards that you don't know much about. Study as much as you can about their area of orgin. Bet of luck, sorry for the long-windedness of all this.
