Over a laying season as careful as the females are they always seem to step on one or two cracking them while adjusting the dirt before depositing another. I have even heard one drop and make the cracking sound and sure enough when digging them up it was ozzing and cracked. I had one female that did not bury them very deep exposing the tops of the eggs and one of my tortoises ended up cracking one while moving around in the pen. At any rate I always have a few each season and most I salvage. Richard
