its a genetic defect that causes extra toes in animals...not a 'morph' in the typical sense. Nor is it co-dominant. I don't know for sure what would cause it...could be problem with incubation, parents may be too closely related, maybe a twin that was mostly absorbed by the surviving baby, except for the extra toe (though this is unlikely if both hind feet have normal functioning extra toes).

I don't think its a good idea to breed for this trait...but if the pair you have consistently have babies with extra toes, I would stop breeding the pair, buy a male or female from a different breeder, to clean up the gene pool. (though I am not sure this would be a inbreeding issue or just a fluke...)
