The best PH, is to fill the water and let it sit for two days. Turtles aren't exactly like fish although I don't know about sidenecks. Map turtles need really fresh water, res's need sluggish water. Best bet is to put fish in there with them(providing your tank's big enought,) and then put the turtles in. But water is important. I've seen turtles in FL, USA with leg deformaties.
