Hi Maureen,
Our "Mongo" is getting a better attitude as he gets bigger, luckily! He is not friendly, but at least tollerates occasional handling now. He used to be our worst chuck to have to deal with, but now he is being shown up by a little male redback! We also have an adult female hispidus/varius cross, who is almost as big. Our female varius has grown much more slowly, and is only about the size of a big ater female.

Our pair of varius don't seem to show very strong dimorphism. Our 2 are the only ones we have seen in person, so we don't know how obvious the sexual dimorphism is in varius. Maybe Tom could tell us more about that.

We feed and care for our varius the same as our ater. They are definitely a cool species, I like their pattern. We would like more of them, as well as some hispidus, but we don't have the space to work with so many giants.

Your big guy looks quite tame. I hear hispidus are normally much calmer than varius.

Take Care.
Nick & Austin
